Connecting the world through learning
Schoolhouse.world is a free, peer-to-peer tutoring platform on which anyone, anywhere can receive live help, earn shareable certifications in the topics they learn about, and have the option to become a tutor in the topics they master. The current focus is on high school math and SAT prep, with plans to expand to other areas soon. All the small-group tutoring sessions happen over Zoom.
As soon as COVID-19 hit, schools transitioned to online learning and students around the world craved more social interaction. Access to personalized and personal help was more inequitable than ever. This prompted Sal Khan, founder of Khan Academy, to partner with his college friend, Shishir Mehrotra, cofounder and CEO of Coda. With Mariah Olson, Drew Bent, and a handful of volunteers, they launched a pilot platform built on Coda to provide high-quality virtual tutoring to thousands of learners–completely for free.
Now, Schoolhouse.world reaches learners from over 150+ countries, and is proud to foster a vibrant community of 4000+ volunteer tutors and 30,000 learners. We’re driven by our mission to connect hundreds of thousands of more learners with safe, equitable opportunities to learn, teach, and grow.
